ABOUT SAM SIRIANNI, SR.First on behalf of the over 6,000 coaches of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, we would like to thank Margaret and the Sirianni family for sharing Coach Sam's life with us.
Coach Sam not only committed himself to building a strong and competitive football program at Fort Myers High School. But he unselfishly gave of himself and his time to help build the Florida Athletic Coaches Association into one of the strongest high school coaches associations in the country. Coach Sam served as District 16 representative for over 20 years on the FACA State Football Committee and State Golf Committee. He also represented District 16 for 15 years as a vital member of the FACA Board of Directors. During his tenure on the Board, the FACA experienced its greatest growth in both membership and programs. His contribution to the coaches association was invaluable. Coach Sam received the FACA Meritorious Service Award and Life Membership Award for his outstanding contribution to the coaching profession and to high school athletics. In 1998 the FACA recognized Coach Sam with it's highest honor by inducting him into the FACA Hall of Fame. Coach Sam was selected twice to coach in the Florida-Georgia High School All-Star Football Classic. Once as an Assistant Coach and then as the Head Coach in 1999. His staff included his brother Frank and on Game night Sam Jr. was there in the coaches booth to help call plays. This was a special Game for Coach Sam to have Frank and Sammy as part of his ALL-Star Game experience. We of course didn't know at that time that Sam would shortly be battling cancer. But he fought this battle with the same strength, courage, and determination that he instilled in his players over the years. With Margaret, his family, his friends and his strong faith in God he won his greatest Friday Night victory as he went home to be with the Lord, October 4, 2002. |
