Kelly Saco Named 2008 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball

Miami Palmetto High School’s Kelly Saco has been named the 2008 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Softball award winner.

In addition, she had a .338 batting average, seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 27 runs scored and 30 RBI, helping lead her team to a 26-3 record and the Class 6A state title.

The winner of the 16th annual Miss Softball Award, sponsored by Florida Dairy Farmers, Inc. and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, was determined in voting by a statewide panel of high school softball coaches and prep media representatives.

Saco, who was earlier chosen as the Class 6A Player-of the-Year, finished ahead of Class 2A Player-of-the-Year Samantha Rich of Wewahitchka, as well as winners in the four other state classifications. Stephanie Sullivan of Venice, the Class 5A Player-of-the-Year, finished third followed by Audrey Broyles of Pembroke Pines Charter (Class 4A), Taylor Wright of Jacksonville Bishop Snyder (Class 3A) and Breanna Collings of Lake Mary Preparatory (Class 1A.

The Florida Dairy Farmers Sports Awards program exemplifies Dairy Farmers Inc.'s commitment to the state's youth. While honoring the state's top athletes and coaches in all 24 FHSAA-sanctioned sports, the program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
