FACA Selects 35th Hall of Fame Class
Seven outstanding coaches were voted to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in July at the annual FACA Summer Board of Directors Meeting at the Florida Mall Hotel in Orlando. The seven were nominated by their peers, reviewed by the FACA Awards Committee and voted on by the FACA Board of Directors.
We congratulate each of the following coaches and their families for being selected to receive the FACA’s highest honor: Carol Chalu, Tampa Prep (volleyball); Shelton Crews, Tallahassee-Godby (football); Jim Griffin, Orlando-Boone (soccer); Joe Hampton, South Ft. Myers (football, golf); John Palmer, Brooksville-Hernando (football); Paul Maechtle, Bradenton-Southeast (football); and Taylor McGrew, Mayo-Lafayette (football).
The Luncheon and Induction will be held at the Daytona Beach Hilton Oceanfront Resort on January 8, 2011 at 12:00 noon. Anyone who has the opportunity should attend this impressive and enlightening affair.
To be eligible for this award, a minimum of 20 years of service in the coaching profession (in Florida) and/or participation in FACA is required. Criteria for selection are based on coaching record, championships won, head coaching tenure, FACA service and awards.
About the FACA
The Florida Athletic Coaches Association is comprised of over 5000 member coaches, both high school and college, in the state of Florida. The FACA sponsors seven High School All-Star Classics in eight sports, conducts four coaching clinics each year and recognizes coaches for their exemplary efforts supporting the youth of this state.
